Gangotri is where Goddess Ganga was received by Lord Shiva in his locks to prevent her from destroying Earth. The temple dedicated to Goddess Ganga sees thousands of pilgrims taking holy dips in the ice-cold waters.
Gaumukh Extension
For adventure seekers, the 19 km trek to Gaumukh glacier (actual Ganga source) can be added. This requires forest permits and additional days.
