Before Ganga and Yamuna become the mighty rivers we know in the plains, they emerge as pristine streams from Himalayan glaciers. This pilgrimage takes you to both origins – where Ganga emerges at Gangotri and Yamuna at Yamunotri. It's a journey to the very source of India's spiritual lifeline.

The Yamunotri Experience

Yamunotri requires a 6 km trek from Janki Chatti – moderate difficulty, achievable by most. The temple houses a black marble idol of Yamuna, and nearby Surya Kund's boiling waters let you cook offerings of rice and potatoes.

The Gangotri Experience

Gangotri is accessible by road, making it the easier of the two. The 18th-century temple marks where Ganga is believed to have descended to earth. The actual glacier source (Gaumukh) is 18 km further – a separate trek for the adventurous.
