Ranthan Kharak Trek

Your journey begins from Kathgodam Railway Station, where our team will greet you with a warm FirstTrek welcome. We drive through the winding mountain roads of Kumaon, crossing pine-covered valleys, terraced fields, and charming hill towns like Almora and Bageshwar. By evening, we reach Loharkhet, a peaceful village that will be our first base camp. After a hearty dinner, rest well for the adventure ahead.

Wake up to the crisp mountain air and start your first day on the trail. The route climbs steadily through dense oak and rhododendron forests, where the scent of pine and wildflowers fills the air. As you emerge from the woods, vast meadows unfold with breathtaking views of the Kumaon peaks. Our campsite at Dhakuri is perfectly placed to watch the sunset paint the mountains golden.

Today’s trail is a treat for nature lovers. We pass through Khati, the last inhabited village on this route, known for its warm-hearted locals and traditional Kumaoni homes. The trail follows the gentle curves of the Pindar River, with towering mountains on either side. By late afternoon, we reach Dwali, a serene campsite tucked amidst lush forests.

This is the day you’ve been waiting for. The trail rises steadily through rocky paths and high-altitude meadows until you step into the vast expanse of Ranthan Kharak. At this vantage point, the Himalayan giants—Nanda Devi, Maiktoli, Nanda Kot, and Pindari Glacier—stand before you in all their glory. The sheer silence and beauty of this place will leave you spellbound.

After an unforgettable sunrise at Ranthan Kharak, we bid farewell to the meadows and make our way back to Dwali. The descent gives a fresh perspective on the route, revealing hidden waterfalls and new mountain angles. A relaxed evening by the campfire rounds off the day.

Our final descent brings us back to Loharkhet, where we started. After freshening up, we drive back to Kathgodam, carrying memories of alpine meadows, majestic peaks, and the peaceful charm of Kumaon.
