Victoria Dam is a historic and picturesque structure located at the edge of Bhimtal Lake in Uttarakhand. Built in 1883 during British rule, the dam is named after Queen Victoria and is one of the region’s oldest surviving water infrastructure works. Standing approximately 40 feet high, it serves both practical and aesthetic purposes—supporting local irrigation while acting as a scenic spot for visitors.
Victoria Dam is not just a utilitarian structure—it is a popular tourist attraction and a favorite spot for photography, morning walks, and quiet reflection. The combination of colonial charm, natural beauty, and spiritual atmosphere makes it one of Bhimtal’s must-visit landmarks.
Whether you're a history buff, a nature lover, or a casual traveler, Victoria Dam offers a refreshing experience in the heart of the Kumaon hills.
Victoria Dam was constructed in 1883 during British rule and is one of the earliest examples of colonial water engineering in Uttarakhand. Built primarily to control the water levels of Bhimtal Lake, the dam also served to support agricultural irrigation in nearby villages. It was named in honor of Queen Victoria, and its enduring functionality over more than a century is a testament to its solid construction. Near the dam stands the Bhimeshwar Mahadev Temple, believed to date back to the 17th century, which adds spiritual and mythological significance to the site.
