March to June: Pleasant weather with blooming forests, ideal for trekking and camping. September to November: Post-monsoon clarity and cooler temperatures; great for stargazing and clear mountain views. Avoid July–August: Heavy monsoons can make the trail slippery and risky. Winters (Dec–Feb): Snow covers the trail; trek becomes challenging and may be closed depending on weather conditions.
By Air: Nearest airport is Gaggal Airport (Kangra), about 20 km from McLeod Ganj. From there, taxis and buses are available to the trek base. By Train: The closest major railhead is Pathankot, approximately 90 km away. From Pathankot, taxis and buses connect to Dharamshala and McLeod Ganj. By Road: Regular Volvo and HRTC buses connect Delhi, Chandigarh, and Amritsar to Dharamshala/McLeod Ganj. From McLeod Ganj, you can either walk to Bhagsu Nag or take a cab to Galu Devi Temple, the two main starting points for the trek.

While Triund itself doesn’t have a specific ancient historical structure, it has long been a sacred highland pasture used by local shepherds and yogis. The ridge is located in the Dhauladhar range, which holds spiritual value in both Hindu and Tibetan traditions. The route has historically been used by Gaddi tribes—nomadic shepherds of Himachal Pradesh—who brought their flocks to graze in summer. In more recent decades, it gained popularity as a base point for longer treks to Indrahar Pass and as a spiritual retreat for monks and meditation seekers.
