Prashar Lake, also known as Parashar Lake, is a serene freshwater lake nestled in the Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh, India. Perched at an altitude of approximately 2,730 meters (8,960 feet) above sea level, the lake is renowned for its crystal-clear waters and a unique floating island that mysteriously drifts across its surface.
Nestled amidst the snow-capped peaks of the Dhauladhar range in Himachal Pradesh, Prashar Lake is a tranquil high-altitude lake located around 49 km from Mandi. Surrounded by dense cedar forests and panoramic Himalayan vistas, the lake is famous for its mysterious floating island that drifts across the water, changing position throughout the year.
Prashar Lake is steeped in legend and spirituality. It is named after Rishi Parashar, a revered sage in Hindu mythology and the grandfather of Ved Vyasa, the author of the Mahabharata. According to local lore, Rishi Parashar meditated at this serene location, and the lake is believed to have formed when he struck the ground with his staff, causing water to gush forth and create the lake.
