Established during the British Raj by an Englishman named John Harold Abbott, this secluded hilltop retreat still retains its old-world charm. The place is known for its panoramic views of the snow-clad Himalayan ranges, tranquil walking trails, dense pine and deodar forests, and rich birdlife.
Abbott Mount was established in the early 20th century by John Harold Abbott, an English businessman and philanthropist who was enchanted by the area's tranquility and scenic beauty. He built a cluster of around 13 European-style cottages on the ridge near Lohaghat, intending to create a peaceful summer retreat for the British elite. The colonial charm of Abbott Mount is still preserved in the old bungalows, the stone church, and remnants of British-era architecture. The place was never commercialized, which is why it has retained its serene and untouched character. One of the cottages is said to be haunted, giving rise to ghost stories among locals and tourists alike, adding a mysterious charm to the place.
